RONALD THOMPSON Obituary
He was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Mayfield Township, the son of John L. and Ruth (Bergstrand) Thompson. Ron was a graduate of Sycamore High School, Class of 1942. He married Ellen R. Corson.
Ronald worked at General Electric in DeKalb and he farmed his entire life in rural Sycamore. He also helped his brother with his silo filling business. In the winter months, Ron was a snow plow driver.
He was a member of DeKalb County Farm Bureau and he enjoyed bowling in DeKalb and Sycamore in two different leagues. Ron liked his daughter's dog, Bailey, which he called "Lil Doggy."
Ron is survived by one son, Richard (Marcia) Thompson of Cortland; two daughters, Shirley (Thomas) McCabe of Milton, Wis., and Janis (Rick) Perkins of Sycamore; five grandchildren, Jennifer Kelly, Tara Sutton, Jessica Perkins, Christopher Thompson and Jackie Perkins; one great-grandchild, Cody McCabe; one sister, Rose Brotcke of Sycamore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen; one daughter, Linda; one grandson, Jason; and one brother, Leonhard.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Diss officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory.
