Dad wrote this to Shannon and Michael, her son, read it to her the night before she left us:

If you & others there think it appropriate, please read this to Shannon. Thanks & all of you hang in there. We love you all.

Our Daughter,

You were born in St Petersburg, FL, when we lived in Pinellas Park, a beautiful and cheerful baby.

You brought joy to our lives. I remember helping you to learn to use the sewing machine for school and the kerfuffle with the teacher about that...

I remember you helping make Christmas bread... I especially recall you and the other kids standing up at our wedding and how happy you were to have Darlene for your mother.

I remember you asking me to ‘give you away’ at your wedding, and my refusal, saying I did not own you so I could not give you away...

you have always ‘owned’ yourself, had a mind of your own, and felt free to express it.

I applaud you for sticking to your guns and insisting to conduct this episode of your life your way.

I am glad you have Greg, Mike, Jessie, Scott, Linda et al to be with you. We love you.

We are sorry we cannot be there for you. We just cannot make the trip and really cannot walk very far without tiring.

But you will always be close to our hearts.

Love from Mom and Dad
