WINIFRED NELSON Obituary

SYCAMORE – Winifred Nelson, 89, formerly of Sycamore, Ill., died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center, DeKalb.
Born Tuesday, Feb. 20, 1923, in Sycamore, to Lemuel and Eula Mae (Hart) Roush, Winifred graduated from Sycamore High School in 1941. She married Morris E. Nelson on Saturday, Aug. 16, 1941, at Sycamore United Methodist Church; he preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2005.
Winifred worked as a sales associate for DeKalb Florist, retiring in 1974. She was a lifelong member of Sycamore United Methodist Church, where she was very involved. Winifred was the former WSCS woman of the year at West Chicago Methodist Church. She served as Sunday school superintendent and as chairwoman of the funeral committee, and was a member of the Esther Circle. Winifred was happiest when her family was together.
Survivors include her five children, Sharon Lee (Don) Coan of San Clemente, Calif., Linda K. (Herb) Buhr of DeKalb, Larry E. (Barbara) Nelson of Warrenville, Tom C. (Marilyn) Nelson of Sycamore and Dianna L. (Kim A.) Nix of Fayetteville, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, Mike, Brett, Sandi, Jozi, Jason, Matt, Kerry, Dara, Kim, Andy, Tami and Zeke; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way; two brothers, James (Doris) Roush and Marvin (Phyllis) Roush; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Roush, Vera Worden and Inez Sanders; and her friend, Joan Roush.
She was predeceased by her husband; parents; two brothers, Austin and Richard Roush; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Roush.
Special thanks go to the staff at DeKalb County Hospice, Kishwaukee Community Hospital, and Oak Crest.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 15, at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave., Sycamore, with the Rev. Harlene Harden officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to the family of Winifred E. Nelson for a fund to be established at a later date.
