Bessie L. Johnson, age 98 of Bourbonnais, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Westwood Assisted Living in Kankakee. She was born on October 16, 1927, the daughter of Walter and Anne Curtis. Bessie married James Johnson Sr. on July 5, 1948, in Irvin, KY. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1998.
Bessie was a homemaker. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, and bird watching. Bessie liked going on walks. She enjoyed a Miller Lite from time to time. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Surviving are one son, James Jr. (Vara) Johnson of Manhattan; two daughters-in-law, Lynn Johnson of Mokena, Peggy Johnson of Orland Park, IL; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Bessie is preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents; two sons, Steve Johnson and Fred Johnson; one daughter, Deborah Adams; and her brothers and sisters.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the 2:00 p.m. service on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
