Carol Glade Obituary

Carol Glade

Carol Coe Glade, adopted daughter of the late Jeannette and Alfred Glade, was born June 19, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio. She departed this life at the age of 93 at Citadel of Bourbonnais on March 23, 2026. Carol was never married and leaves one sister, Helen Petee, of Holland, OH (adopted by another family, who also never married). Helen and Carol reconnected in 1982. In addition to Helen, Carol is survived by 2 cousins (from her adoptive parents), Pat Rider of Elkhart, IN, and her daughter, Megan Whittington of South Bend, Indiana.

Carol was employed for 15 years at Manteno State Hospital (and 12 years for IL Department of Human Services). Carol retired in 1996. Even though she had a severe hearing loss, she never let her disability hold her back from being active. She was a keen driver in her volunteer work for Catholic Charities thru the Senior Companion Programs, taking many Senior Citizens to their various appointments. She was given an award as VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR IN JULY 2004 from Catholic Charities and was also named VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH by the Women of the Moose. When asked how she felt about receiving the 2 awards her reply was "I wanted to be helpful and believe that I am truly following Christ's example as willing servant." She retired from Catholic Charities aged 91. Carol also belonged to the Order of Eastern Star for 66 years, where she served as Worthy Matron twice. She played the organ for Elwood, Braidwood, Chebanse, and Manteno Chapters of OES. She also belonged to the White Shrine of Jerusalem and served as worthy High Priestess 3 times; Order of Amaranth, serving as Royal Matron; Royal Neighbors of America; serving as Oracle Chaplain; Flag Bearer, Women of the Moose, serving as organist for many years; and Chaplain, United Commercial Travelers. Carol also served as Chaplain and organist for many years in Emblem Club #414, Auxiliary of ELKS. Carol was also a member of the Salvation Army and was a member of the Senior Citizen group called MERRIE MUSIC MAKERS who performed for Nursing Homes, Veterans Center, and various community affairs. She also entertained on her own at various Nursing Homes such as Merkles in Clifton, OLOV in Bourbonnais, Aperion Care, Manor Care in Kankakee, and Heritage Village. She felt that this spread her link of friendship through music to everyone.

It is Carol's wish that she be remembered in life, not in death. Therefore, there will be no funeral home visitation, but a small service will be held at Mound Grove Gardens Chapel, at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 27, 2026.

Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Kankakee, Kankakee, IL, where she was a member. First Baptist meets at The Grow Center in Bourbonnais on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month.

Arrangements are by Schreffler Funeral Home, Kankakee. Please sign her guestbook at www.schrefflerfuneralhomes.com

Yesterday

I worked with Carol at Public Aid for several years before I took a job at Olivet. I now have retired in Goshen, IN where my daughters live. Saw Carol´s obituary in the Elkhart news. Have wondered several times about Carol after I left. She was always a hard worker!
