Kenneth Fruendt Obituary

Kenneth William "Kenny" Fruendt, 88, of St. Anne, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 14, 2024).

He was born Dec. 30, 1935, in Chicago, the son of Arthur and Martha (Knigge) Fruendt. Kenneth married Kathleen Schaafsma on Oct. 25, 1957, in Wichert. She preceded him in death Nov. 9, 2018.

Kenny worked for UARCO in Watseka, for several years. Later, he became the owner and operator of Fruendt Crop Services for 30 years.

He was a member of the St. Anne Township Board and the Kankakee County Fair Board.

Kenny enjoyed spending time with family, traveling and going to basketball games for his children and grandchildren. He loved bowling in his younger years and was dedicated to his work and family.

Kenny was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1955 to 1956.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Wichert and enjoyed his church and community.

Surviving are three sons, Jim (Suzanne) Fruendt, of Beaverville, Joel (Suzanne) Fruendt, of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Jay (Dana) Fruendt, of Bourbonnais; one daughter, Julie Fruendt, of St. Anne; four grandchildren, Nick (Ariel) Fruendt, Sara (James) Mihm, Liza Fruendt and Adam (Emily) Wojnowski; and four great-grandchildren, Owen Fruendt, Mia Fruendt, Hanna Wojnowski and Hailey Wojnowski.

In addition to his wife, Kathleen Fruendt, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Marilyn Kuhlman.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home in St. Anne. An additional time for visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, until the 11 a.m. funeral service, both at the First Reformed Church of Wichert. Interment will follow in St. Anne Township Cemetery, St. Anne.

Memorials may be made to the First Reformed Church of Wichert or St. Anne Future Farmers of America.
