David R. "Red" McDermott, age 82. Retired Chicago Fire Department. U.S. Marine veteran of Korean War. Beloved husband of Donna (nee Hoendervoogt). Devoted father of Keith (Carleen), Kraig (Teresa), and the late Kevin and Kenneth (Lucy). Loving grandfather of Sean, Fallon, Patrick, Shannon, Ryan, and Hannah. Red also spent many years in the funeral industry working as a chauffeur. Visitation Tuesday 4-8PM at the Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Hwy (7700W), Palos Hills. Funeral Wednesday 10:15AM service at the funeral home. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois. Sending our thoughts and prayers during this tough time! Even though my parent's and the rest of the old Brighton Knights knew Red very well, I had the best times fighting fires occasionally with him on Engine 39 & when he was detailed to 65 ! I will surely miss him.
