Edward Crane Obituary

Crane, Edward J., age 77 Died Saturday at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno, Illinois, following a long illness. A 1944 Graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and a Navy Veteran, he served on the USS New Orleans in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. In 1960 he was appointed Chief Operating Engineer for the Chicago Police Department and served in that capacity for the next 26 years, retiring in 1986. In that role he was responsible for upgrading, modernizing, and maintaining all police facilities in the city of Chicago. Known for his professionalism, uncompromising integrity and extraordinary work ethic, he supervised the design and construction of most of the police facilities currently in operation today. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 399 and The American Legion, CPD Post. He is survived by his Wife of 55 years, Nancy nee McCabe, his Sister Martha [Leo] Clifford, his Sister-in-law Kathleen Howard, his six children, Mary Patrice [John] Scully, Martin, Thomas [Caryn], Edward M. [Judy], John and Carolyn [Mark] Boyich, and 19 Grandchildren, Jeanne Jordan, Colleen Green, Ann Marie Scully, John Scully, Jesse Crane, James, Tammy and Eric Crane, Michael, Mary, Eddie, and the late Matthew Crane, Bridget, Katelyn, Erin, and Kelly Crane, Meg, Therese, and Emily Boyich. Dear GreatGrandpa of Matthew Crane and Katie Jordan. Kind Uncle of many Nieces and Nephews. Visitation was Tuesday 2 to 9p.m. Funeral was Wednesday 10:00a.m. from The Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 West 151st St., Orland Park to St. Mary Church, Mokena, Mass 11:00a.m. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
