Mr. Siegel came to our front door in Chicago Ridge one evening in the fall of 1972. The 26th Amendment granting 18-year-olds the right to vote had been passed the previous year. Since I was about to turn 18 before the November 1972 election, Mr. Siegel registered me to vote that very evening and I have voted in every election since then.
Years later, I became a deputy voter registrar. I have registered hundreds of first-time voters over the years, but I always think of, and thank Mr. Siegel for his civil service the night he registered me.

Eugene Siegel was my cousin. My father's sister was his mother. I remember as a little boy living in the Gage Park District of the South Side of Chicago that he would show up at our house to give advice and counsel. I remember him as a cheerful and extreme compassionate man. His sister Loretta was very close to my sister Dorothy Kusiolek at the time. Danny and Jerry were two of his brothers. Danny was close to my brother Robert Kusiolek. When my parents separated when I was 9 or so of age, he frequently stopped by the house to say hello. He was bright and socialable. My father Walter C. Kusiolek who worked for Commonwealth Edison spent a lot of time at the Siegel's home.-the home was always open to family and friends. I believe that Eugene's father also worked at Commonwealth Edison. My memories of him were very positive. It was sad to hear of his passing. May he rest in Peace.
