Ken will always be loved and remembered. He was my brother in law and uncle to my children. We all have so many good memories of him. We will all miss him. He is joining his mom, dad and brother in heaven.

What I personally will always remember about Ken was the undying support that he had for our family and for Pat. I don't believe that he ever had a mean bone in his body and cannot recall one single time that he was critical of other people. He lived every day like it was his last...never missing an opportunity to have a good time engaging others. Even though the very last career choice for Pat would have been "nursing"...she rose to the occassion and supported and cared for Ken like no one else could have. Like a dog with a bone...she was his advocate in every way for the entire time he was sick. So Pat, you truly made a better nurse than you ever thought.

My hope is that God's hand touches you to ease your grief...I love you...

I want to thank each and every one of you who has shared (or will share) stories of Ken. He was one in a million, and I miss him like crazy. It is comforting to hear stories of his younger days - he always liked to smile and laugh and have a good time. As hard as it is to lose him, he often told me that he had a good life. I guess that's the best we can all hope for. Thanks for your prayers.

We were greatly saddened by Ken’s passing. His impact in our family and to those around him was made very clear at the wake. Beyond my Aunt Pat with whom he shared the final portion of his life, I see his impact most clearly in the role he played in the lives of some of the younger kids; Ryan, Jeremy, Alyssa, and Sydney. I was older and not around as much, but it is very evident that he had a tremendously positive impact in their lives.

I also wanted to share that I have seen a small sample of his joy for our family’s children in the way that he played with my girls as recently as the 4th of July. They were “sneaking up” on him and even though he was clearly not doing very well he still pretended to be startled, which led to great laughter from my girls.

Thank you, Ken, for being a presence in our family and for making as much of a difference in our lives as you did. And thank you to my Aunt Pat for demonstrating such devotion and support during his struggle…may we all perform as well under such difficult circumstances.

much love from all of us…

Sorry to hear of the death of Kenny, you are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

I am a former neighbor, the youngest Schmid kid, we lived a block away (on Harvey Avenue). My brothers (John and Robert) were buddies with the Graeber guys, especially Joe and KENNY!

The funniest memory I have of Kenny was how he used to come pounding on our back door. One year during Lent, he came 'a knocking' for Robert. My folks said, "Kenny, come on in and finish praying the rosary with us". Kenny did what he felt was appropriate, and sat quietly saying the rosary with us (but the look on his face was something else!!). That was the last time he came knocking that close to dinner time, but he was in the clear again after Easter!

Kenny was a great guy. I'm sorry to hear of his illness, suffering and death - but he left a wonderful lasting impression on many people.

With sympathy,
Maryellen Schmid - Wessendorf

Ken was one of the first guys to " take me under his wing " at Illinois Bell. The stories I could tell... Some would make you smile. Most would make you laugh out loud. Pretty crazy back in the day. My friend you will be missed. Pat, I am so sorry for you loss.

Dear Pat -- As you know, Ken was an old and dear friend - we grew up across the streeet from each other in Harvey. When Terry came into my life, the two of them hit it off as if they had known each other since childhood. When we married, it was a "no brainer" to have Ken be in our wedding party. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. We were so happy when you and he found each other. What a blessing for you both! He will be missed by all. Lots of love and prayers to you.

Ken and I had some great times together when we worked at the Harvey Accounting Office. Even thogh I was old enough to be his father, we played a lot of golf and had some outstanding 19th drinking holes together. We ran oour own Christmas party one year when the office head frowned on such things. Pat, God Bless You. You were an angel sent to take care of Ken, and he was blessed to have you. May his soul rest in peace, and may we all meet merrily in heaven.

Dear Pat, I am so sorry to hear about Kenny. It has been years, but I think of you every now & then. I remember Kenny from when I was in high school & I use to write to him when he was in the Navy. He knew I loved M&M's, so when he was on leave, he picked me up from school and brought me the biggest bag of M&M's I had ever seen. He was just that way, so thoughtful. Funny how I worked with you in Harvey & you eventually married my "old" pen pal. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
