Gail Ann Olson Severns, 72, of Kemmerer, Wyo., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011. She was born Dec. 30, 1938, to Dave and Marguerite Olson in Lander, Wyo.
Gail grew up in the logging communities of Wyoming and Colorado. She and her high school sweetheart, Richard R. Severns, were married in Walden, Colo. In their early years, Richard and Gail lived in Golden, Colo., Salt Lake City, Utah, and Pocatello, Idaho, before settling in Kemmerer in 1974.
Gail enjoyed spending time at her second home in the Wind River Mountains near Pinedale, Wyo. She loved to sit on the cabin's deck, watching the moose and enjoying the mountain air.
Gail had a passion for all children, especially her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She worked for many years as a secretary in the Kemmerer schools and was known by many as "Grandma Gail." Everyone who knew Gail loved her for her sense of humor, her "Gail-isms," her infectious laugh and her love of life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and an older brother, Donald Olson.
Gail is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard, and three children, Megan (Larry) Alexander of Kemmerer, Peter (Susan) Severns of Kemmerer, and Robert (Chris) Severns of Aztec. She is also survived by a younger brother, Dave (Patty) Olson of Vaughn, Mont., and a brother-in-law Bill Severns of San Leandro, Calif; her grandchildren, Amy (Chuck) Grenfell of Evanston, Wyo., Andrea (Justin) Vineyard of Kemmerer, and Charles Severns and Katie Severns, both of Aztec; her great-grandchildren, Nicolas Vineyard, Tyler Vineyard, Caitlin Grenfell and Alex Grenfell; a nephew and three nieces.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
