Joan Barber Obituary
Joan Barber was born in Shiprock, to the late Irene Mae Redmule and Byron Barber. Her clan was the Naa Kai Dine' e' born for Hooghan la' ni'.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Byron and Irene Barber; sister Lynda B. Davis; her aunt Gertrude Billy; uncle Joe Barber; cousins, Shawna Murphy, Stephanie Hemstreet, Elvira Ann Hemstreet and Anita Barber.
She is survived by her sister Lucille Barber and husband Orville Arviso of Farmington. Her nieces Dr. Alissa L. Davis-Ku and husband Dr. Ben C. Ku of Sandy, Utah; LaShawnta K. Davis of Upper Fruitland; her uncle Robert Barber (Blanche) of Upper Fruitland; aunts Anna Mae Hemstreet and Venna Barber of Upper Fruitland; and Reita Barber of Bloomfield.
Joan attended Grace B. Wilson Elementary School; Kirtland Jr. High and Kirtland Central High School. She also attended Fort Lewis College and San Juan College. Joan was employed with Arizona Public Service for 38 years. Joan was a traditionalist, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint.
The funeral service for Joan Barber will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, Stake Center located at 10 Road 6523, Kirtland. Family viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, Stake Center. Burial will be at Kirtland/Fruitland Cemetery. Reception following the burial will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, Kirtland Old Building-3rd ward located at 473 County Rd. 6100 Kirtland. Pallbearers will be: Orlando Barber, Christian Goodluck, Orion Goodluck, Chistopher Billy, Pastor James Fredy and Bruce Salisbury. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Lucille B. Arviso, Reita Barber, Anslem K. Davis, Dr. Ben C. Ku, Dr. Alissa L. Davis-Ku, LaShawnta K. Davis, and Co-Workers at Arizona Public Service Company.
Condolence and donations can be made at the public viewing and at the funeral service. Joan is in the care of Desert View Funeral Home, North U.S. Highway 491 in Shiprock, 505-368-4607.
