Jan. 18, 1930 - Feb. 21, 2011

Joe Blackie, 81, of Nageezi, died on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, in Lexington, Ky. He was born on Jan. 18, 1930, in Otis, to John and Helen Blackie.
He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for forty years and retired as a maintenance worker.
His hobbies were ranching, fishing, hunting, squaw dances and song dances. He also loved the craft of carpentry throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Lope Blackie; son, Leander Blackie; and daughter, JoAnn Rodriguez.
Joe is survived by his sons, Samuel Blackie, Leonard Blackie, Leroy Blackie and Leon Blackie; daughter, Jolene Blackie; sister, Eleanor Johnson; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lybrook. Pastor Robert Nargo will officiate.
Interment will follow the services at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Cemetery in Lybrook.
Pallbearers are Leon Blackie, Leonard Blackie, Samuel Blackie, Renzo Commanche, Harvey Setzer, Lucas Blackie, Lee Murphy and Charles Martinez Jr.
