Norma Goldtooth Obituary

Norma Lee Goldtooth, 83, passed away Wednesday evening, March 4, 2015, at San
Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. Mrs. Goldtooth was a resident of
Farmington for many years. She was born in Crystal, under the maiden name
Norma Bell Lee, born into the Dibélzhíní (Black Sheep Clan), born for Dziltl'ahnii (Big Cove Clan).
Norma graduated from the Navajo Mission in Farmington and earned her bachelor's degree from San Diego State in microbiology during the mid 1950s. She earned her certification as a professional medical technologist, running medical and hospital laboratories in San Diego, Calif.; Page, Winslow and Phoenix, Ariz.; and Ganado Sage Memorial Hospital on the Navajo Reservation. She retired from the Navajo Nation after directing the Streptococcal Program of the Navajo Nation Division of Health Improvement Services and directing other health-related programs for the Navajo Nation. She earned a master's degree in public health administration from Arizona State University.
She loved dancing, attending rodeos and Navajo Nation celebrations.
Mrs. Goldtooth is survived by son, Bruce "Tom" Goldtooth of Bemidji, Minn.; sisters, Myrtle Lincoln and Mirriam Gescek; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many other extended relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin E. Lee; her mother, Virginia P. Lee; brother
Stanley Lee; another brother that died as a baby; and a granddaughter, Monica Goldtooth.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 10 at the Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington, 404 West Arrington St.
Burial will follow services at the Kirkland/Fruitland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Goldtooth, Dallas Goldtooth, Migizi Pensonea, Vince Staples Graves,
Albino Garcia, Jr. and Anpao Duta Flying Earth.
Honorary pallbearers will be Byron Lester Goldtooth, Carl Natanni, Marshall Hinton and Matthew
Shitima.
Mrs. Gooldtooth's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Kirtland, 458 Road 6100, 505-598-9636. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so at www.serenityandcompany.com.
