Sherman Dugan Obituary

Sherman Edward Dugan passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 15, 1954, to Mary and Tom Dugan. Sherman was a life long resident of Farmington. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1972 and followed his father's footsteps to the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with a degree in Geology.
Sherman married Lee Ann Minnick in Tulsa, Okla., in 1979 and had two children, Sean Thomas Dugan and Megan Marie Dugan.
Sherman worked along side both his father and his son; he contributed to the growth of Dugan Production with his father and was an executive producer with his son, Sean for the film Believe in Me. Sherman was a fan of any team in first place but closely followed the St. Louis Cardinals, Oklahoma Sooners and the Denver Broncos. He sponsored Connie Mack teams and opening up his home to board visiting players many times.
Sherman could always be found with a book or a magazine, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of art and history, in particular the foundation of American industry. Sherman was a passionate collector of rocks, minerals, and fossils and accumulated one of the largest private collections in the southwest; some of his finest specimens are on display at the offices of Dugan Productions. He loved Soul music specifically the sounds of Al Green and James Brown, which resonated throughout all parts of his life. His hobbies included skiing, scuba diving, photography, watercolor painting and imbibing caffeine. In his younger years Sherman was a respected player in the Park Football League, a unicyclist and a lounge singer.
Sherman married his high school sweetheart, Sally Thompson, May 11, 2001 and together they traveled, laughed and loved each other for twelve years. Sally and Sherman made several charitable donations, including Farmington's only hyperbaric chambers to San Juan Regional Medical facility.
He was unique and loved by many. His friends and family will dearly miss his ability to light up the room with his wit, leaving those who encountered him in tears of laughter.
Sherman was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Dugan.
Sherman is survived by his loving wife, Sally A.B. Dugan; his father, Thomas A. Dugan; and his three children, Sean and Megan Dugan and Brent Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (Diabetesresearch.org), Childhaven, 807 W. Apache St. Farmington, NM 87401 or San Juan College Foundation 4601 College Blvd, Farmington NM.
Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, at the First United Methodist Church, 808 N. Monterey Ave. in Farmington, and the Rev. Ursula Messano of Bethany Christian Church will officiate.
