Sheryl Nicole Gallegos was called home to be with our heavenly Father on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015. She was born June 3, 1978, in Farmington, and resided in Bloomfield. Sheryl is preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Eufelia Madrid; grandparents, Delfido and Helen Gallegos, and Eloy E. Gomez; niece, Isabel; and uncles, Daniel Gallegos and Albert Gallegos. She is survived by her parents, Fidel and Irene Gallegos; sisters, Monica (Lance) Bickham and Laura (Russel) Hankhhouse; four nieces, two nephews; great-nephew; grandmother, Stella Gomez; and godmother, Beverly Seitzinger. Sheryl graduated from Bloomfield High School, received her associate degree from San Juan College in social work and would have graduated in May 2016 with her bachelor's degree. Sheryl loved and excelled in academics and made the dean's list. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and received many awards during her academic career. Sheryl was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic community of Bloomfield where she assisted in teaching the first Communion class for five years, then moved on to help teach the pre-confirmation classes. Sheryl loved spending time outdoors with her family camping and riding four wheelers. She had a very special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, often spending time and gaming with them.
Sheryl was an amazing person with a big heart. The very bestest auntie to all Littles, fiercely protective of her loved ones and one of the kindest, craziest, most brave people ever known. She will be missed more than she could ever know.
Cremation has taken place, and a rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, immediately followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 307 N. Church St. in Bloomfield with Father James Walker as celebrant with luncheon to follow. Burial will take place at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers are her nieces and nephews, Nichole Polanco, Kaily Hankhouse, Jordan Gallegos, Andrew Polanco, Olivia Hankhouse, Logan Bickham and Elijah Alcon.
Any donations or contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church CCD Program in Bloomfield.

My heart is so sad to hear of the passing of one of the sweetest people I have ever met. I had an art class with Sheryl in 2012. She befriended me right away and was always so uplifting to be around! My heart has been filled with great sadness hearing about the passing of Sheryl. I remember her being one of my dearest childhood friends. Being little girls at each others houses and playing till we couldn't play anymore. Spending many hours in CCD classes together reciting the same prayers over and over. She will be missed dearly!
