Veronica Salazar Obituary

Veronica B. Salazar, 54, of Bloomfield, peacefully returned to her heavenly Father on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at home surrounded by her family. She was born April 3, 1960, in Las Vegas, to Gilbert and Donna Benavidez. Veronica had a passion for helping others, family and strangers alike. She had an impeccable work ethic that included work with youth at Halvorson House, a secretary for PMS Counseling and the office manager for PMS. Her strong will and compassion for others was an inspiration to everyone who had the opportunity to know her. Veronica is survived by her loving husband, Abade Salazar; her parents, Gilbert and Donna Benavidez; mother in-law, Rosabel Salazar; sons, Moses (Amanda) and Isaiah Salazar; daughter, Melanie (Mitch) Goins; granddaughters, Amia and Maliah Goins; grandsons, Amar'e Goins and Isaac Salazar; siblings, Bernice (Andrew) Cudares, Patricia Benavidez and Adam (Desiraye) Benavidez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Veronica always had a special place in her heart for her godchildren, Mathieu, Nathaniel, James, Lekiesha, Alejandra, Felicity, Marissa and Stephanie. The family would like to thank family and friends for their prayers and generosity during their time of need. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Erma Long for being a caring and compassionate caregiver to their loving wife and mother. You were more than a caregiver; you became a family member and her best friend.
Two rosaries will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, and Friday, Sept. 19, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 2100 E. 20th St. in Farmington.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Mary's in Farmington and lunch will be served at St. Mary's parish hall, 307 N. Church St. in Bloomfield. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

My deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to each and everyone of you, although we had lost touch over the yrs. I will always remember that when I moved here from Texas I was in elementary school with Veronica, and even though most everyone didn't want to be my friend, because I was new, and I talked different, she wanted to be my friend, and I loved her for being so kind, and accepting me the way I was. God bless you all and give you peace, and strength to get through each day during this difficult time. May her spirit always be with you... RIP my dearest friend!

My condolences to all the family. Veronica touched the lives of many people, often those in distress whom she treated with kind respect. As the first contact of the Community Counseling Center, she was just the person needed to make those fearful or anxious feel at ease. She made our world a better place. May we all continue to do so.
