Alton Lee Bundy Sr., 71, of 702 Mount Herman Church Road, Elizabeth City, N.C., died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va. Born in Pasquotank County, N.C., he was the son of the late Joshua W. and Shirley Morris Bundy, and was the husband of Virginia Eves Bundy of the residence. Mr. Bundy had worked as a heavy equipment operator for the N.C. Department of Transportation, and had attended Pearl Street Pentecostal Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was a friend to many. Along with his wife, Mr. Bundy is survived by a daughter, Melissa B. Twiford and husband, Carl; a son, Alton Lee Bundy Jr. and wife, Cheryl; a half-sister, Ethel Balance; two sisters, Elizabeth Gaskins and Gloria White Fountain, all of Elizabeth City, N.C.; five grandchildren, Adam Bundy and wife Marsha, Daniel Bundy and wife, Lindsay, Chasity Bundy, Zack Bundy and wife, Julia, and Brannon Twiford; and five great-grandchildren, Destiny, Andrew, Kamron, Paige and Tyler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-sister, Gracie White; and four brothers, Earl Bundy, Charlie Bundy, Junior Bundy and Wilton Bundy. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Rick Lowery and the Rev. Jennifer Clagg officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
