Craig Campbell Obituary

Craig C. Campbell

ELIZABETH CITY - Craig C. Campbell passed to the Lord early June 23, 2016 from the excellently staffed, beautiful Brookdale facility in Elizabeth City. Craig, best known here locally as "Tom Campbells father", was raised in Little Washington. He had ponies as a child and a horse named "Copper" who he rode to deliver newspapers, later in life he trailered and pastured her with his family in all the years they traveled. Craig was very athletic and Tom can remember him jumping from left ground side to right ground side with Copper at a full gallop.

Craig's parents, both well loved teachers encouraged education strongly and he began attending Duke University at age 16. He began his long career in the then new field of Chemical Particle Boarding; ranging over the years from airplanes (some test piloted by Chuck Yeager among others), to supervisor with Dupont & Mobile Oil. He was a brilliant man with a dry wit. He and his lovely wife, Norma Martin Campbell (also a Duke graduate) had a deep interest in learning and education which they shared with their children. Craig is survived by his former wife, Norma; Tom Campbell, well known and recently retired farm agent from N.C. State and Pasquotank County; Dan Campbell, Architect extraordinaire of the Philadelphia area; daughter Carrie also just retired from the Federal Government in Southern California. God works in our lives.

Carrie, and avid golfer, flew to South Carolina for three golf tournaments only two weeks ago and so was able to visit with her father in Elizabeth City for the first time in many years, before traveling north to visit with her mother, brother Dan and his three intelligent charming daughters all now attending college there. Craig loved his granddaughters, Emily, Olivia & Julia very much. Craig is also survived by his caring companion of several years, Sandy Ball of Elizabeth City.

Craig attended Union Newbegun Methodist Church in Weeksville which he considered one of the warmest, most welcoming churches he had ever encountered.

Pastor Roger Braun often visited and enjoyed fellowshipping with Craig. A memorial service is being planned at Newbegun church. Arrangements by Twiford Funeral Home, Elizabeth City.

Craig; ride well, travel far and remember all who loved and admired you.
