Daniel D. Sherman Sr.

Daniel Douglas Dan D. Sherman, Sr., 68, of 1001 Stacie Drive, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Sherman was born in Grand Rapids, MI on May 10, 1947 and was the son of the late James Frederick, Sr. and Rose Elizabeth Knowlton Sherman. Retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer from the US Navy after 31 years of service, he was a proud veteran having served in the Vietnam War. Always honored to serve his country and fellow man, he quickly volunteered and assisted with the clean-up efforts at the Pentagon following the attack on September 11, 2001. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Darlene Fox Sherman; a daughter, Kim Dotson and husband Tim; a son, Dan Sherman, Jr. and wife Jahmelle, all of Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren, Lauren, Daniel, III, Lindsey and husband Tyler, and Kayla. The family will hold a celebration of life service on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Elizabeth City Lodge No. 1847 Loyal Order of Moose. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, Hertford, assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.
