Hertford resident

Ernest Wilson White, 90, of 418 Ocean Hwy. N., Hertford, died Friday morning, Sept. 16, 2011 in his home. A native of Perquimans County, he was the son of the late William N. and Shelly Spruill White. He worked as a self employed carpenter. Mr. White was a member of Berea Church of Christ and a member of American Legion Post # 126. Mr. White served his country in the U.S. Army he was a WWII Veteran, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. White was an avid fisherman he loved playing checkers with his grandchildren and friends. Survivors include his wife, Maude Miller White; and two daughters, Carolyn W. Rennie of Hertford; Carolyn was predeceased by her late husband, Jim Rennie; Nancy W. Newell and her husband, Larry, of Elizabeth City; one son, R. Wayne White and wife, Joni, of Ayden; two sisters, Kathleen Stokley and Valeria Roberts, both of Hertford; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. White was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers. The family did receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services in Hertford. Other times the family will be at the home of Carolyn Rennie, 208 Sunset Drive, Hertford. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in Berea Church of Christ with Minister Lou Vellia and Dr. I. K. "Sonny Furrow officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be sent to Berea Church of Christ Building Fund, 1664 New Hope Road, Hertford, NC 27944.
