Sunbury resident

Joshua Alma "J." Perry Jr., 78, of 154 Sugar Run Road, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in his home. Mr. Perry was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Joshua Alma Sr. and Daisy Rountree Perry. A retired farmer, he was a member of Gatesville Masonic Lodge #126 and was an Army veteran. Surviving are his daughter, Sheila Perry of Kill Devil Hills; a son, Josh Perry III and wife, Crystal, of Clay City, Ky.; a sister, Elizabeth Swayne of Hertford; and two grandchildren, Noah and Emma Perry. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, by the Rev. Tom Hall. A private burial will follow near the home. Friends may join the family today from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to any chapter of the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
