L. Moore Obituary

L. Allan Moore, 82, 192 Lovers Lane, Elizabeth City, NC died Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Sentara Albemarle Hospital. A native of Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of the late Willie Ross Moore and Nellie Baker Moore Hedgepeth and the husband of Claire Stevens Moore of the residence. He was a salesman for Electrolux, a former employee of Norfolk and Western Rail Road and a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Patricia Griffith of Elizabeth City, NC, Sharon Girardi of Virginia Beach, VA, and Karin Umphlett of Jackson, MO; and three stepdaughters, Laurie Vollmer of Elizabeth City, Carole Howell of Cumming, GA, and Cynthia Cope of Woodland, TX; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a son, Mike Moore. A funeral service will be Friday, February 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Senn officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and immediately following the funeral service at the church.
