Marion R. Sharp

Marion Reid Sharp, 89, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008 at Magnolia Glen Senior Living Community in Raleigh where she resided for the past three years.
Marion was born in Pasquotank County in 1918 and was the daughter of Wade Hampton Reid and Margaret Harrell Reid. After graduating from East Carolina Teachers College she married Hunter L. Sharp of Harrellsville, N.C., in the early years of World War II. After the war, they stayed in the Army; Hunter as a career officer's wife. Together they lived and traveled around the world and raised a family. Marion was a school teacher, reader, needle worker, bridge player, quilter and always an army wife, a mom and a grandmother. She was proud of her family heritage, and with her late sister Margaret R. Small became a member of The National Society of Colonial dames and The Daughters of American Revolution.
Marion is survived by son, Hunter Sharp and his wife, Devora, of Florida and the Caribbean; son, Starkey Sharp of Grandy, N.C.; daughter, Brooke Sharp Jackson and her husband, Linwood A. Jackson, of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughter, Sarah Sharp Prior, and her husband, Mike, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; granddaughter, Hunter Brooke Jackson of Raleigh, N.C.; grandson, Reid Linwood Jackson of Raleigh, N.C. Marion was predeceased in death by her husband of 43 years, Col. Hunter L. Sharp; her brother, Billy Reid and her sister, Margaret R. Small.
The family extends their gratitude to Community Care Hospice and United Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family invites a contribution to a hospice organization of your choice. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 at 1 p.m. in Twiford Funeral Home, Northside Chapel, in Elizabeth City with Rev. David J. Blackman officiating. The family will also have a memorial service in Raleigh, N.C., at the Magnolia Glen Senior Living Center, 5301 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC 27612 on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at 1 p.m.
