Phyllis Rae (Hopkins) Gray
ELIZABETH CITY - Phyllis Rae Hopkins Gray, age 81, of Elizabeth City, NC, died at her home on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Born in Elizabeth City, NC, on April 27, 1944, to the late Tilton Luther Hopkins and Eunice Turner Hopkins, she was the widow of Johnny Ray Gray. She was a cherished member of Fountain of Life Church, where she found community and spiritual fulfillment.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Lisa G. Bailey (George, Jr.); sons, Carl M. Gray (Kimberly) and Chris B. Gray (Angela); brother, Robert "Bobby" Hopkins; grandchildren, Jessica Gray Webb (Ethan), Tiffany Nicole Williams, Taylor Rae Bailey, Megan Nichole Kent (Bradley), and Emily Madison Gray; six great grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters, Gloria Darlene Russell, Marion Odella Greico, Judith Faye Wilson, and Karen Elaine Smithson.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to Albemarle Home Care and Hospice, Kathy Long, Lisa Irving, Robin Murray, James Saul, Gloria Vance, Telisha Hicks, and special friends, Cindy Hall and Denise Weatherly, for the care and love given to their mother.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Fountain of Life Church, with Pastor Hans Hess officiating. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery. A visitation was held at Twiford Memorial Chapel, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
