Robert Hocutt Obituary
MOYOCK - Robert Eugene Hocutt, Sr., age 83, of Moyock, NC, passed away at Chesapeake Regional Hospital on May 12, 2025. Born in Selma, NC on July 20, 1941, to the late James Colonel Hocutt and Ella Mae Strickland Hocutt, he was the husband of Betty Jean Sawyer Hocutt for 63 years.
Robert dedicated 31 years of his professional life to the Ford Motor Company, retiring in January 1995. His strong work ethic and commitment were evident not only in his career but also in his service as a valued member of the Moyock Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years, where he held the position of Fire Chief and also Assistant Fire Chief for a decade.
He leaves behind a loving family who cherished him deeply: his wife, Betty Jean; his daughters, Tammy Sue Barnes, Cynthia Annette Gore, and Alma Jean Brewer; his son, Robert E. Hocutt, Jr.; his sisters, Peggy Crocker and Betty Jo Crocker; his brother, Dan Hocutt; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his brothers, Roger Hocutt and Wayne Hocutt.
A funeral service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Moyock Baptist Church, with Reverend Vic Ramsey officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the family cemetery, 1182 Tulls Creek Rd, Moyock, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Moyock Baptist Church, 123 Oak St, Moyock, NC 27958; Moyock Volunteer Fire Department (https://www.moyockfd.org/support-us), 108 Fire Station Ct, Moyock, NC 27958; or Crawford Volunteer Fire Department (https://crawfordfire.org), 121 Shawboro Rd, Moyock, NC 27958.
