Robert O. Upton, Jr. Founder of Bob's Upholstery Robert Osborn Upton Jr., age 73, of 1392 Nixonton Road, Elizabeth City, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Upton, a native of Pasquotank County, was the son of the late Robert Osborn Upton Sr. and Dimple Bell Sawyer Upton Ambersio. He was married to Shirley Kelley Upton for fifty-six years. Mr. Upton was the founder of Bob's Upholstery and a Baptist. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Sherry Upton Gallop of Elizabeth City and Shirl Upton Minton of Roxobel; two sons, Gene Allen Upton of Murphy and R. Kelley Upton of Elizabeth City; two sisters, Kay Coltharp of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a grandson, Gene Allen Upton II; and a sister, Beverly Eddens. A funeral service will be Friday, June 13, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Scott Neal officiating. Entombment will be at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home and at other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to one's charity of choice.
