VERSAILLES -- Barbara Jean Monnin, age 83, of Versailles passed away at 8:40 am Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Villas at Mother Angeline in Columbus.
Barbara was born on September 3, 1942, in Trotwood to the late Joseph F. & Henrietta (Phlipot) Baltes. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret "Peg" Hojnacki and Connie Lechleiter.
Barbara is survived by her children, Lorrie & Philip Croswell of Columbus, David Monnin of Cincinnati, Daniel Monnin of Versailles, and Deborah & Jim Francis of Versailles; grandchildren, Rachel Croswell-Knowles & Robert Knowles, Sara & Larry Serfozo, Katherine & Julius Vichinsky, Andrew Croswell, Lauren & Jacob Schlater, Kathryn Monnin, Matthew Francis, and Danielle Francis; great grandchildren, Erik Knowles, Kaitlyn Knowles, Isla Knowles, Lincoln Serfozo, Charlotte Vichinsky, one expected, and Ada Schlater; and brother & sister-in-law, Ted & Jennie Baltes of Versailles.
Barbara retired from Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy where she was a registered nurse for 25 years. She was a very faithful and active member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles where she served as the parish nurse. She also served on the bereavement committee, served as a baptismal instructor, volunteered when needed, and delivered communion to the homebound. Barbara handmade rosaries and donated them to the military and various missions. She volunteered at Elizabeth New Life Center in Sidney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Ned Brown celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
