NORTH STAR -- Nolan J. Mangen, age 84, of North Star passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
Nolan was born on May 3, 1941, in Darke County to the late Adrian & Bertha (Dapore) Mangen. On January 18, 1964, he married Norma Uhlenhake who preceded him in death on March 9, 1998. He is also preceded in death by brothers, Roger and Gerald Mangen; sister & brother-in-law, Alberta & Isadore Wenning; and brother-in-law, Harold Uhlenhake.
Nolan is survived by his children, Lynne (Joe) Schlater, Doug Mangen, Lisa (James) Trout, and Lori (Jeff) Stammen; grandchildren, Abbey, Kelsey, Tyler, Olivia, Madison, Cole, Connor, Hannah, Ben, Jocelyn, Noah, Lucas, Ava, Eli, and Alexis; 12 great grandchildren and 2 on the way; sister & brother-in-law, Susanna (Ronald) Eilerman; brothers-in-law, Ralph Uhlenhake, Don (Pat) Uhlenhake, and Dale (Sharon) Uhlenhake; sister-in-law, Joan Uhlenhake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nolan served in the U.S. Army. He was a lifelong farmer and worked at New Idea for many years and later on worked at Sankyo in Sidney. Nolan was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star, and North Star American Legion Post 174 where he served on the Honor Guard for many military funerals. He was a former member of the North Star Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Nolan enjoyed farming, playing cards, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, September 12, 2025, at St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star with Rev. Fr. Ned Brown celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the North Star American Legion Post 174. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles and Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church.
