Phyllis Hennessy Obituary

GREENVILLE -- Phyllis Ann (Lecklider) Hennessy age 88, of Greenville passed away at 1:33 pm Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 1:33 pm at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

Phyllis was born on October 1, 1936, in Gettysburg to the late Ralph & Margaret (Kyle) Lecklider. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ronald Lee Hennessy on June 22, 2017, whom she married August 7, 1954; and grandson, Robert (Bobby) Hennessy.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Vic & Krista Hennessy, Kim & Sylvia Hennessy, Melissa & John Foureman, and Kathleen Jane Hennessy; grandchildren, Kyle & Katharine Hennessy, Meghan Hennessy, Marina & Dustin Keers, Matthew & Andrea Hennessy, Daniel Foureman, Kathryn & James Light, and Rachel & Matthew Sullivan; great grandchildren, Harper Hennessy, Harrison Hennessy, Margaret (Maggie) Belle Keers, Joseph Keers, Henry Hennessy, May Hennessy, Larissa Foureman, Alexandria Foureman, Elijah Foureman, Cole Foureman, Lydia Light, Audree Sullivan, and Alden James Sullivan, and God great grandchildren-in-love, Haven Luken, and Haizley Luken; sister, Jane Harmon; nephews, John Harmon and David Harmon; and a niece, JoEllen Jahnke.

Phyllis graduated from Gettysburg High School and later married Ronald Hennessy of Versailles. Together, they made their home in Greenville, Ohio, where they built a life filled with love, family, and service.

Phyllis dedicated 24 years of her career to The Brethren Retirement Community (BRC), where she was known for her compassion and commitment. Even after retiring, she continued to volunteer at BRC and at her church, where she lovingly organized funeral dinners. She was a devoted caretaker throughout her life-tending to both her and Ron's parents and later caring for her beloved husband during his final years.

Her sister Jane described her best: "Phyllis had a very selfless and cheerful attitude, always putting others' needs ahead of her own."

Phyllis found joy in traveling with her family-spending summers at the lakes and cabins of Minnesota and winters in Florida with her daughter. She cherished trips with her parents and sister and especially loved attending her grandchildren's activities and sporting events. She and Ron shared a passion for theatre and auctions, always on the hunt for the prettiest dishes, collectibles, and antiques.

A talented gardener, Phyllis took great pride in her beautiful flowers. She was also known for her exceptional cooking, often inviting friends and family to share in her delicious meals. Her deep-dish apple pies, homemade applesauce, and noodles were legendary and will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting them.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Bill Dobson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
