GREENVILLE -- Ralph Eugene "Gene" Snyder Sr., age 89, of Greenville passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, at his home.
Gene was born May 17, 1936 in Hollansburg, Ohio, the son of the late Ralph Amos Snyder and Louie Margaret Ellen Wright Snyder. Gene worked at Westinghouse in Union City, IN for 33 years before they closed. He also worked for Derby manufacturing and Annie's Cafe until they closed. Gene eventually retired from Crane Pumps after spending several years there. Gene lived a simple life. He loved fishing and casinos. Gene loved tinkering in his garage and woodworking. He enjoyed wooden craft animals and jigsaw puzzles.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joann (Bill) Abner. He is also preceded by Alice Kay (Dave) Runner, Barbara and Ted Mowery, and Catherine Fay Myers. Gene is also preceded by Jerry and Marg Snyder, Ben Kreitzer of Palestine, and Zachary Baker-Harris. Gene joins his sons in heaven, Douglas and Steven Lee Snyder.
Gene is survived by his wonderful wife of 63 years, Ellen Snyder. He leaves behind his children: Shirley Jean Snyder of Hollansburg, Cindy Kay (Jeff) Stevens of Greenville, Pamela Brooks of Greenville, Ralph (Sandra) Snyder Jr. Of Greenville, Margaret (Robert) Enicks of Greenville, and Rebecca (Pat) Solon of Greenville. Gene is survived by his sister Sue Kreitzer of Palestine. Gene is also survived by his many grandchildren: Charley, Matthew, and Nathaniel Harrison, Corina Morris, Jessica Shinker, Dawn Ann Snyder, Marcy and Leonard Sprowl, Carisa and Amy, Zachary and Dale, Jeff, Cary, and Bobby Enicks, Sami Cox, Dusty, Maci, Jena, Amanda, and Patrick. Gene also leaves behind numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his cat Kaden.
A funeral service will be held on Friday October 3, 2025 at 4:00PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville Ohio, with Pastor Nathaniel Harrison officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00PM until 4:00PM on Friday at the funeral home. A burial will follow at Hollansburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Greenville Rescue and Everheart Hospice.
