Rodney Armstrong Obituary

UNION CITY -- Rodney Hart Armstrong, age 90, of Union City, Ohio, passed from his earthly life into his heavenly home, on October 2, 2025. He died peacefully after a challenging time of health issues following several strokes.

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31.

This scripture exemplifies the faith that Rodney had in his personal relationship with his Lord and Savior. His life was a testament of faith, strength, love and encouragement to all who knew him. He had a special giving nature and always an encouraging smile or words to uplift someone. Rodney was a leader, setting an example throughout his life.

Rodney was born with his twin brother Rodger on June 13, 1935, to their parents, Harry Blaine and Adene Marie (Shockney) Armstrong. His relationship with his brother was a special one, They were inseparable, living beside each other all of their life. They grew up on the Armstrong family farm in Darke County, Ohio. Rodney graduated from Jackson High School in 1953, followed by service in the National Guard.

He met his sweet wife Virginia, who grew up in Richmond, Indiana and later moved to Darke County. After they married in 1957, they established their home in the house where Rodney was born and had always lived. In later years, they built a new home also located on the family farm. They were married for over 53 years when Ginny passed away in 2010.

Rodney and Virginia were blessed with five children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren and they all survive. Rodney's children are Cyndi Armstrong, Mark and his wife Sheila Armstrong, Paul Armstrong, Dan and his wife Charity Armstrong, and Elisabeth and her husband Michael Esposito.

Rodney loved to hunt and was a collector of rifles. He spent many happy years deer hunting in Wyoming with one of the hunting ranches being in the shadow of Devils Tower. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. Every groundhog and coyote in the community learned to hide from Rodney and his gun.

However, his most treasured times were those spent with his family. Rodney loved his family with all of his heart. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He often said his best memories with his children were made around the kitchen table or playing baseball in the yard. He was overjoyed when twin grandsons arrived in the family being a twin himself. They all were so special to him and brought lots of love to his life.

Rodney farmed from the age of 14 with his father and brother, and he also had a long career of 40 years as an agricultural crop insurance adjuster. He worked until the age of 85 years old for RCIS – Rural Community Insurance Services and had previously worked for Rain & Hail. He enjoyed working with so many farmers across the country. He made new friends every day.

Rodney attended church at Bible Tabernacle in Muncie, Indiana. He was a church deacon, adult Sunday School teacher for many years, and he was loved and will be greatly missed by his church family.

Mr. Armstrong drove my school bus back in the 1960s. He was a really kind man. I sat on the heater box and operated the turn signals and flasher lights, don't tell anyone. Life was simple back then. RIP my friend.
