FORT LORAMIE — Virginia R. Drees, age 96, formerly of Ft. Loramie. died at 1:05 a.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Versailles Health Care Center. She was born on July 6, 1919, in Shelby County, Ohio to the late Julius R. and Theresa (Monnin) Gariety.
She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Ft. Loramie and St. Ann's Rosary Altar Sodality. She was also a member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 203, the Apostleship of Prayer as both a member and promoter, Shelby County Senior Citizens Club. She liked doing crafts and playing Scrabble.
She married Leo J. Drees on April 29, 1941 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2002.
She is survived by children Richard and Karen Drees, Versailles, Mary Jean and Neal Pleiman, Osgood, Rosie and Bill Pierron, Versailles, eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Frances Gariety, Piqua.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Pleiman, sister, Thelma and Ralph Marchal, brothers, Adrian and Bernadine Gariety, Robert and Marie Gariety, Norbert Gariety and Jim Gariety, in-laws, Ed and Josephine Drees, Verona and Ray Barhorst, Helen and Ted Nurrenbrock, John and Hildrith Drees and Victor and Wilma Drees.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Ft. Loramie, with Rev. Steven Shoup celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Newport, Ohio. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home-Minster on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9-1o a.m.. Memorials may be made to Ft. Loramie Life Squad. Condolences may be left at hogenkampfh.com.
