UNION CITY, IN -- Wavelene J. Denniston, 96 of Union City, Indiana and formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday June 24, 2025, at 12:25 PM at Heritage Senior Living. Wavelene was born April 1, 1929, in Darke County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles O. and Vera F. (Hufford) Rinebarger.
Wavelene worked as a teacher for 6 years at Gettysburg School; she worked for 2 years as a clerk at Mississinawa Valley Schools; she then worked for Greenville National Bank retiring in 1997; she also was the owner\operator of Stages of Ages Store. She was a member of the Republican Women's group, the Christian Women's Club, Oakland Church of The Brethren where she served on as a Deacon and on church board; she was a Welcome Wagon Rep; served on the Chamber of Commerce; she enjoyed playing euchre, reading, shopping and mostly loved holding family gatherings.
Wavelene is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Denniston on October 4, 1992, whom she married July 8, 1950; and her son-in-law, Jim Roeth.
Wavelene is survived by her children and spouses, Kathy and Jeff Girdler of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Kay Roeth of New Bremen, Phyllis Hiestand of Union City, Ohio, Rodney and Lori Denniston of Richmond, Indiana, and Jack Denniston of Union City, Indiana; 19 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
A Service will be held on Saturday June 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Steve Shoop officiating. Burial will follow in Snell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday June 27, 2025, at the funeral home.
