Duran, Alicia
Alicia Duran succumbed to cancer at her home of 30 years in Hermosa Beach, CA on August 16, 2006. Alicia was born on December 31, 1937 in San Diego and raised in Vista, CA. She moved to Los Angeles to attend Woodbury College where she graduated with a BA Degree in Business. After college she was employed by the J C Penney Company for 13 years. Alicia serving as acting secretary to Mr. James Cash Penney whenever he was on the West Coast. Alicia joined TRW in 1978 where she remained until her retirement in 1999. As TRW's Exhibits Manager, Alicia traveled throughout the United States and to such far-off places as South Korea, Aba Dabi and Dubai. Alicia's keen sense of humor, her special wit, strong will and love of life earned her life-long friendships which included her sorority sisters, the "River bunch," many co-workers and neighbors. Traveling, dining out, hanging out at Nordstrom's, golfing so she could show off her Nancy Lopez swing, and pulling pranks on anyone receptive were among her favorite activities. You could always find her late at night e-mailing her jokes to a wide spectrum of recipients. Alicia brought such joy to all her friends that she will be sorely missed, but never forgotten, THAT'S FOR SURE. Alicia is survived by her mother and father, Luz & Margarita Duran of Vista; sister, Sylvia (John) Jordan of Desert Hot Springs; her godchild, Andrea Lopez of Glendale, her business partner and close friend, Bette Parkin, of Hermosa Beach; and many aunts, cousins, & friends along with her 2 special Lovebirds, Cooper & Willi. She is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Duran. A Mass will be celebrated 1:00 on 8/29 at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Vista, California. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to: Cheer for Children - PMB 280-PO 7000, Redondo Beach 90277 or the American Cancer Society.
