E. Andrews Obituary

E. Ruth Andrews, a resident of Burlington, MA, for 7 years, passed away on Sunday afternoon, August 24, 2008. The beloved wife of Larry McCloskey for 19 years, Ruth was 53 years old. Ruth was born in Chapel Hill, NC, the second of eight children, and grew up in Canton, CT. Ruth moved to Torrance, CA, in 1987, where she lived for 14 years before moving to Burlington. Ruth worked in the computer industry for over 30 years. After a lengthy career doing support for Nixdorf Computer in Hartford, CT, Burlington, and Long Beach, CA, Ruth became a support engineer for Bus-Tech, Inc, in 1992, working first in California, and most recently in Burlington. In 1994, Ruth took a temporary hiatus from the computer business to find and operate South Bay Homebrew Supply in Torrance, for 5 years. Ruth had a love of dance, art, and music from early childhood. An avid reader, she never stopped learning. She immersed herself thoroughly in every vocation and avocation that she undertook, and she'd never leave a problem unsolved. Ruth will be missed as a loving wife, a loyal friend, a devoted daughter, and supportive sister. Ruth was the daughter of Robert U. Andrews of Granby, CT, and the late Margaret Andrews. Ruth is also survived by stepchildren, Jennifer Dawson and her husband, David Dawson of TX; Robert McCloskey of CA and Kristina McCloskey of NV; 6 grandchildren; her siblings, Woody Andrews of CA; Bill Andrews of MT; Martha Drapeau of CT; Gerry Andrews of FL; Tim Andrews of FL; Carol Laufersky of FL; and Jamie Andrews of CT; as well as their spouses, and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends. She is also survived by her beloved 16-year-old cat, Maggie. Ruth was interred in the Andrews family burial plot in Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich, CT, on August 30. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Larry and the family. We knew Ruth when they ran the South Bay HomeBrew Supply. She was always a happy individual and we enjoyed the times we spent with her. She will be missed.

My condolences to Ruth's extended family.

I was a close friend of Ruth's at Canton High though I only saw her a couple of times after I went to college and not at all in the last twenty years.

I also remember picnics at the resevoir, hikes on Race Ridge and up to Bash Bish Falls, dancing to the music of Woody's band, getting rescued by Ruth (in a car) after we failed to make our destination riding our bikes!

Ruth, may you rest in peace.

Ruth, Missing you beyond words. Love, Larry

Condolences to all of Ruth's family. Although I hadn't seen Ruth in roughly 30 years, seeing her picture on this page with that broad smile brings back many memories of Canton CT, going for walks to the reservoir, Ruth doing the occasional pirouette and generally enjoying life in her own unique fashion. I will always remember her as a little on the kooky side, curious, funny, creative, caring and possessing an underlying sense of joy and wonder at life in general. I am sorry that I did not keep in touch to see how all of those qualities served her in her adult years. You were a special human being, Ruth.
Love, Susan Madsen (nee Lord)
