So humble and unassuming, Ed was a great man and a great friend. I will always remember the tenderness in his voice when he spoke of you, Sharry, and the pride in his eyes when he spoke of your boys - from the time they were toddlers 'til the last time I saw him! He loved you all so! My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sharry, please know you can call on me ANY time!

Sharry and Family,
Our family truly loved Ed. My son, Brooks, and my daughter, Bailey, will always remember Ed's kind words and his inspiration in the RB Summer Sailing Program. Bailey was clearly upset when she learned that Ed had passed and she said, "He didn't deserve it." I reminded her that we were SO lucky to know such a man and have him in our lives. It is because of Ed that she found a passion for sailing. No other person has ever had that kind of effect on her. Our hearts are heavy and we will miss him greatly. We are so sorry for your loss...

My memories of starting a teaching career in Hawthorne will always start with Ed Neubauer. He was one of the first teachers I met and became a wonderful friend and colleague. He was always the first person any student or teacher could always go to for an uplifting talk or,just a friendly chat. I especially will always remember my first camping trip at York Elementary. He was so kind and patient with me the "inexperienced camper" and even had the children laughing with me as he carried me down a steep hill that I couldn't maneuver. What a wonderful adventure he made everything out to be.He truly was the type of man you want every son to grow up and be.I am deeply saddened at his passing and,I will miss him. My prayers and condolences go out to his wonderful sons and wife Sharry.

I'll always remember...
..his anticipation, enthusiasm competitiveness, but fun spirit leading up to the track meet at York. And his determination to keep that trophy.
..the same competitive spirit leading up to the egg/water balloon toss at the annual HETA picnic, and his patient, but serious instruction on how to catch and toss properly.
how he never seemed phased by the fact that the staff room was full of women. One year he convinced us all to buy bread machines, swap recipes, and believe these magical machines would be the end to all our man troubles.
..his love for the Voyage of the Mimi, 6th grade camp, and drawing.
The tragedy is losing someone so irreplaceable, kind, and compassionate. But it's also in losing so many of the programs and events for kids that he so dearly loved and cared about. May our memories of Ed live on, and may we work hard to keep his dreams and passions alive.

Dear Sharry,
I was so sorry to hear about Ed. I graduated from North High with him. Jason, Justin and Jonas attended Jefferson Elementary while I was the secretary there.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and the boys at this difficult time.

I will never forget the time that Ed took me out to celebrate my birthday. It turned out to be one of my best birthdays. That night, Ed, myself and 50 to 60 sixth graders went on a star gazing hike after campfire. Earlier in the day, I had told a group of students that I was hoping to see a falling star that night, the night of my birthday, so that I could make a special wish. Though a star gazing hike was not on the agenda that night, Ed having overheard my conversation, decided to make the hike happen. We all headed out to an open area near the campsite and Ed arranged to have all the lights at camp turned out. He told us all to huddle close together and turn off our flashlights. We waited patiently, eyes riveted to the sky and listened to his stories about the stars and constellations, when one of my students shouted there goes a falling star, and then another and another. We were soon gazing at the most amazing meteor shower I have ever seen. Hundreds of falling stars all around us. I made a wish or two and then looked over at Ed who winked and mouthed Happy Birthday to me. I never found out whether he knew that there would be a meteor shower that night or if it was just one of those magical moments, but it truly was one of the best birthdays. To share that night with a group of students that I adored and a friend who was truly inspirational was amazing. Thanks, Ed for giving me a wonderful birthday memory.
My condolences to Sharry, his sons, and family.

When I think back to my 10 years working in HSD, many of my fondest memories involve Ed: the year he wore a tie every pay day, his class of "Purple Varlets" for the annual track meet, and those infamous staff Sailing parties. Ed was a special teacher, mentor, and friend.

When I started my teaching career at York Elementary, Ed was the "token male" on our staff. He was deeply esteemed by both students and staff, and he always had a word of encouragement for anyone who needed it. He brought his experiences from the Navy to life at our school. Ed will be remembered as one of "the good guys."

Ed was one of the first teachers I met when I began teaching at HSD...His consistent positive energy and enthusiasm for 6th grade camp got me through my rookie year of teaching. He touched so many students and people...and he made them laugh! There are Purple Varlets (his field day team name for the better part of 30 years), both young and old who remember Ed fondly. I will too...My condolences to his wonderful family.

Dear Neubauer Family,
We have known Ed and Sherry for such a short time, but what a joyous and special time it has been. Our deepest condolences to you all at this tough time.
When Lynne was selecting a sailing school for my birthday present, she immediately knew she had found the right one the second Ed answered the phone.
Learning to sail with Ed was an unparalleled experience in learning and comradeship. Ed was such a patient and wise teacher, always correcting with a kind word and allowing this student to learn by making mistakes and recovering from them.
Right up until the last time I saw him, I thought we would have more time with him - he really looked strong and well. He has been an example to me as a man and as a friend.
Ed, may your soul find peace and love in the hereafter.

Ed..was the most incredible person I have ever met...we were teachers with the City of Redondo Beach together..and I am truly shocked by this news...I tried to get him to teach for my sailing school and business, in San Pedro, but he wanted to stay in Redondo and keep running their program...we had some great sailing days and memories..flipping a 16ft Hobie Cat in front on the Redondo Pier..the guy who bought it and Ed and I sailed it for him from Marina del Rey to Redondo...was not sitting where he should have been..and the guy's weight just pushed us all the way over..what a scene...but with our efforts and Ed's patience we got it righted....I will MISS you ED...I remember when his babies were born in the 70's....how short that seemed ago..
My love and condolences to his wonderful wife and family!! He was truly a sweetheart and a lovely man!!

Ed was the kind of guy who was always easy to talk to, sincere and so willing to participate in what life handed him. I met him at HSD when he was the teacher next door to my office when I was the new green AP many years ago. He was dedicated to his students and to innovative programs for them. Later after we had both retired, I'd run into him at Polly's on the pier or at the Redondo Beach Community Classes Office. He will be missed in many places and in many hearts.

I met Ed as I entered the teaching profession in 2001...he was a great mentor and more importantly an amazing human being. Ed took the time to bring me sailing for my first time ever and along the way we shared some "green beers." :) The world was a better place because of Ed Neubauer. Condolences.

Ed was a huge asset to his community. The Redondo Beach sailing program almost folded a couple of times except for Ed's efforts. He was a good sailing colleague and a regular at Polly's on the pier on Sunday mornings for years. He is much missed.

Ed was my teaching partner for many years at the HSD. He was simply amazing in the classroom and had success with even the most difficult students. He was loved by all his students and all of his fellow teachers. Ed is a legend in the HSD and will be sorely missed.

Ed was an amazing person. He was so honest and real, yet so encouraging and friendly. He was a great boss at RBYB, and I will miss our run-ins on the U-dock in King Harbor. I will pray for God's comfort for his family through this time. Jonas, let me know if i can do anything for you and your family. [email protected]

Two of my most vivid childhood sports memories come from the Neubauer family. One was giving up a home run to Jonas in Little League, the other was seeing Ed ref our RBYB games. He was a fixture at the Aviation Gym.
To Jonas and the rest of the Neubauer family, I'm very sorry for your loss. Please know you are in my thoughts.
I will be praying for your comfort.
