Eugene Fraser Obituary

A life long resident of Hawthorne, he was born to Clifford and Annie Fraser on November 4, 1924 in his home on Jefferson Ave. Windy graduated Leuzinger High School with the class of 1942, and was still in contact with many of his classmates. He was a lifetime member of the Hawthorne Lancer Club, which he started while he was in high school and still gets together for a picnic each year. He served our country in the Army during World War II. Although he met his wife, Jeanne, in high school, it wasn't until he returned from the war in 1944 that they really started dating. They were married October 13, 1946 in Las Vegas. Windy's first job after leaving the service was as a house mover with the Koeller brothers. He then went on to work as an employee of the City of Hawthorne for 33 years. He started digging ditches for the Water Department and when he retired he had worked his way up to Water Superintendent. He has been retired for 28 years and took great pleasure in his new job as full time grandpa. Windy was also a member of Elks and the Hawthorne Kiwanis Club where he had served as president. Windy passed away very peacefully on May 13, 2010 in his home in Hawthorne with his family by his side. He is survived by his son, Steve Fraser (Marlon); daughters, Debbie Culling and Kathy McKenna (Mark); grandchildren, Krista Blitch (Carter), Casey, Mike and Kayla McKenna, and Juli Simmons (Robert); great grandchildren, Taylor Blitch, Kyle and Ryan Simmons; sisters-in-law, Doris Currie, Nelda Fraser, Donna Peak; and brother-in-law, Chuck Seematter; many nieces and nephews, and close friends, including his high school classmate and closest friends, Jack and Gert Wadman. A viewing will be held Thursday, May 20 from 2pn-8pm at Douglass & Dunaway Mortuary, 4286 W. Broadway in Hawthorne. Funeral service will be Friday, May 21 at 11am at Grace Chapel, Inglewood Park Cemetery, 720 W. Florence Ave., Inglewood. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or Vitas Hospice, 990 W. 190th St., #120, Torrance, CA 90502.
