Frank Reusché Obituary

It is with great sadness that the Reusché Family announces the passing of a beloved and truly gentle man. Frank Louis Reusché passed away on June 28, 2009, after a brief and courageous battle with illness. His family and friends have suffered a tremendous loss. His unparalleled enthusiasm for knowledge and family left those who knew him with a greater appreciation for life. Frank truly enriched the lives of those who knew him. He was a devoted father and true friend in every sense of the word, always being there when needed to lend a hand, and ear, a shoulder or words of support and wisdom. Frank was born to Frank Louis and Marjorie Theresa Reusché in Larchmont, NY, on February 17, 1925. He enjoyed the early years with brother, Robert in NY before attending Bethany College in West Virginia graduating with a degree in chemistry in 1944. Frank had continued to be an active alumnus recently attending his 65th Bethany reunion. Following college, Frank served his beloved country in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. He continued his graduate work in chemistry at Rutgers University and Ohio State University where he received his Master's Degree. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 23 years, Amelia. Together they had five children, Frank III, Thomas, Mary, and Madeline; as well as his eight grandchildren, Eric, Sarah, Adam, Aaron, Brittany, Nicole, Keith, and Rachel. Following her death, he was later married to Jane F. Verney from 1975 until 2008 during which time he cherished his relationships with his stepchildren, Steven, Kim, Kerry, and Alison and their children. Frank was a ceramic engineer and ultimately the business owner of L. Reusché & Co. in NJ where he worked for some 40 years. After retiring from his business in 1988, he served as a consultant to small businesses. For several years prior to his final retirement, in 2005, he served as the financial controller for the North Central NJ Board of Realtors. In 2007, Frank moved to an independent living facility in Torrance, California to be near his 3 daughters and grandchildren. In that brief period of time, Frank had made a lifelong impression on all the people that he had met. He was a very special man that will be missed everyday by so many whose lives he had touched. Our fondest family memories are of a man who was a dedicated Little League Coach, an avid reader of history, a strummer of the tenor banjo, a homespun photographer who turned the kitchen into a makeshift darkroom each December to produce photos for Christmas cards. Whether constructing a deck, an outdoor pool, solar panels, or just fixing everything and anything he could lay a screwdriver on, he was never one to be idle. Most of all, he was the one who listened well and was an engaging, loving, and vibrant gentle man. He enjoyed his family and all of his dear friends who made his life rich beyond measure. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Green Hills Memorial Chapel and Mortuary, 27501 S. Western Ave., Palos Verdes, CA at 1:00 p.m. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

Frank offered me my first 'real' job while I was still in high school. He was a wonderful mentor who had the courage and insight to believe in me. He was a patient teacher and his lessons remain with me today, 30 years later. I remember fondly our trip to the SGAA convention in Orlando and the misadventures of business travel we laughed about for a long time after. I am so grateful that I had the chance to speak to him recently. He was truly larger than life to anyone that knew him and will be dearly missed. He was not only the best boss I ever had the honor of working with, but a dear friend in every sense.

I first met Frank at the 1978 Summer Conference of the Stained Glass Association of America in Minneapolis. Frank was a wonderful man and one of the most helpful men in the Stained Glass industry. He was extremely articulate and a very elegant man. My wife and I have great memories of Frank and our sympathies to his family.

Some years ago I was fortunate to get to know Frank at the SGAA summer conferences. He was good friends with the late Dorothy Maddy and others who used Reusche glass paints. Few realize his long time involvement with stained glass and glass painting, and that he was an honorary member of SGAA. My condolances to his family.
