Jesse Odie Kendrick, Jr.

Jessie Odie Kendrick, Jr. was born on June 8, 1929 in Stamps, Arkansas. He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1947 and Los Angeles City College in 1950. He married Doris G. Stoney in 1953 and to that union Derrick and Karen Kendrick-Lumpkin were born. Jesse began his very extensive teaching career in 1953, earning a Master's Degree in Education and passionately affecting the lives of everyone who crossed his path. He was loved by all those who encountered his quiet, but strong professional spirit from young to old. He retired as a principal in 1992 after more than forty years of service with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
Jesse was drafted into the United States Army where he served faithfully for two years and was honorably discharged in 1956. His love for the armed forces drew him back and he re-enlisted in the Army Reserve advancing to the rank of major by the time he retired. Jesse's favorite past time was playing golf. He participated in (more than we can count) golf tournaments and golfing events where he won numerous trophies and awards. He was a Boy Scout leader for several years and supported many community activities through out the county of Los Angeles. Jesse and his wife, Doris, were happily married for fifty-seven wonderful years, both faithfully attended Wilmington United Methodist Church for over forty-four years. Jesse's kind, quiet spirit will truly be missed.
