John Nappi Obituary
On the morning of October 7th, 2013, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, John Louis Nappi passed away quietly at home with family by his side. John, a WWII veteran, served proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was then a well- traveled Merchant Marine. Later he worked as a longshoreman where he was a proud member of the ILWU, Local 13 and had served as Sergeant at Arms. "Be happy with Nappi." John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rita Nappi; two sons, Louie and Frank (Kelly) Nappi; and his daughter Martha (John) Nappi-Fiorenza; and five grandchildren: John, Danielle, Dominique Nappi, Rita Fiorenza, and Alison Nappi. A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, October 11, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church followed by entombment at Green Hills Memorial Park. It was 1959 when I first met John Nappi here in San Pedro. I was a child just immigrated with my family from Ischia Italy. John and his wife Rita became a close family friend of ours. We were able to share many memories of our early years living in the older section of San Pedro. To me John Nappi was always a truly class act. He was a hard working American, who cared dearly about his family, community and his country. John was a role model and inspiration to many of the kids from our old neighborhood. John and Rita will always remain a part of our lives.
