Joyce Peterson Hoy Obituary

Our mother came into this life on January 1,1934. She was born at Centinella Hospital and spent her early years with her family and friends in Inglewood. After graduating from Inglewood High, she married Don Hoy with whom she had three children. The family moved to Torrance in 1959 into the home where she spent the rest of her years. Her passions in life were primarily her family, hosting numerous get togethers at the family home, baking, cooking, knitting, traveling and being an avid Dodgers and Lakers fan. She was known for her extensive love and knowledge of movies and attended classes at UCLA to enrich her expertise. Our mother's life was spent caring for others and making them happy, be it at home or work. She continued to work throughout her life in the medical field and was an integral part of the family practice. She considered the patients there to be her personal friends and greeted them with her loving smile. Joyce loved to travel to Utah and the Southwest as a child and throughout her life. Hawaii was a favorite destination for her, and she made Maui her home for five years. Our mother was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie. She leaves behind her loving family, brother, Jack Peterson;her companion, Don Hoy; children, Jeff and Jolene; grandchildren Lou and Melissa; five great grandchildren; and many close, extended family members. Services for Mama Joyce will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 27 at A.M. Gamby, 25001 Narbonne Ave., Lomita. In lieu of flowers, the family requests making contributions to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 811 W. Jeff,i am so saddened to hear the news of your mom's passing. although i lost my dad many, many years ago, I think there is something particularly poignant about the passing of a mother, and my heart goes out to you. Know that my prayers are with you, and know also that with time, this will get easier. Take care of yourself, and rely on others to help you through this. XO, Teri Walsh (Schultz)
