Karl Bingemann Obituary

Born on December 28, 1924, in Medford, New Jersey, Karl spent his boyhood on the shores and bays of Long Beach Island. An accomplished sailor, swimmer and fisherman, Karl always sported a tan and bleached blonde hair during the summer. Winters would find Karl hunting squirrels, rabbits or pheasants and checking his trap line for muskrats before school. He was attending Moorstown Friends School playing soccer and sometimes studying, when he met the love of his life at the age of twelve. Ten years later, Marilyn Aimone and Karl were married. Karl went to Tulane University, and then earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech. After a brief stint aboard an aircraft carrier during WW II, the pair moved to California when Karl got a job with General Electric. They returned to the East Coast, lived on an 86 acre farm in Ithaca, New York, where their daughter, Diane was born. The three of them returned to California when Karl was recruited by Hughes Aircraft in 1955, where he remained as an outstanding employee for over 32 years. At Hughes, Karl helped design the lens and mirrors for the camera of the "Surveyor", the first soft lunar landing vessel, which now resides at the Smithsonian. He later worked with infrared, fiber-optics, cryogenics and retired from quality assurance. In 1956, Karl and Lynn bought their first home in a close knit neighborhood in Palos Verdes Estates, where 4th of July block parties, costume parties, bridge parties, Rose bowl parties and any other excuse for a party earned lifetime loyalty and friendships. In 1957, his son, K.R. was born followed by Eric in 1962. He earned the nickname "Karl, King of Corn" from another group of close friends, the Tuesday night Portuguese Bend Beach B.B.Q. gang that met for over forty years during the summer. Karl and Lynn were members of the Neighborhood Church for over fifty years. In this day and age, not many friendships remain close or long lasting, but Karl had many due to his loyalty, honesty and overall character, and to the type of families that moved into Lunada Bay in the 50's and 60's. They were true neighbors and friends that still show care and compassion for each other. Up until he was unable, Karl loved playing tennis, and golf, lunching or playing poker with his men's group. Karl had many other passions in life, including supporting and coaching Lunada Bay Little League and AYSO soccer, supporting PV High soccer and driving cars that nobody else would…the pink Maverick was our favorite! Our father supported us in all we did; he was a mentor and a role model. He made time for his family and friends. As he was a man of faith, Karl was ready to be with The Lord and had no fear of death. He passed peacefully at his home with his loving wife of 62 years, Lynn, at his side. He is also survived by his children, Diane, Bob (Chris, Eric, Jeff, Suzanne), K.R., Annie (Will, Tyler, Kurtis), and Eric, Gigi (Jacob). There will be a celebration of Karl's life when all the family can be together in June at their home in Lunada Bay. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com.

Thank you to all those who signed the guest book, sent cards or called and even to those that didn't but had pleasant memories of my father. Being believers in Jesus Christ, as my father was, my family and I are certain that after he took his last breath here, his next breath was taken in the presence of the Lord. There is great comfort in that, but yes we also grieve. Many have asked about a servive or memorial...we are planning a celebration of Karl's life in June, either the third or fourth week when all of my sister's family can be here. We will try to get word out as soon as the date is set. If you are interested in attending but aren't in the Lunada Bay grapevine(ie. Hughes alum) please send me an email and I will send all the info. Thanks again and God bless

I was sorry to hear news of Mr. Bingemann passing away. We moved from the area a long time ago, but memories of Mr. Bingemann and the family are very fresh to me. They all had a big impact on my life and I know that is very much expression of the father. My first contact with him was when appealing to get onto the big Thors soccer team that he coached. Much was shared over the years and all are good memories. Great dad KR and we will all miss him ... especially in times when the model of the ideal dad are tough going.

I was so sorry to hear of Karl's passing. He and Lynn and their children were good friends beginning in the 70's when we all were part of the Via Rivera bunch. I have such wonderful memories of us all watching our kids grow up while we were living in Lunada Bay. With love and my deepest sympathy to the Bingemann family-

Karl and Family,
We are sorry to hear about your families loss. It's strange how your Dad and I had similar pasts. I lived in Moorestown and spent summers down at Beach Haven, before moving to PV and now have almost thirty years in Aerospace.
Your in our thoughts.

In Memory of Mr. K.

I remembered back the first time I lay eyes on Karl. He was a stout pillar of a man, a real man's man you can say. There is something about him that have always attracted me, I can't put my finger on it but it was palpable, that eternal sunshine from the soul and core of the man that radiates warmth and kindness. I love the way he walked, I can imagine in his younger days he was a great half back or forward on the courts or a decent walter weight boxer. Yes, you can say I like him right from the start. Through the years my fondest memories of him was at Thanksgiving. How I always looked forward to going over Karl and Lynn's house for that great turkey dinner, and bask in that eternal sunshine of his. Last few years every time I saw him I can see he was going through his sunset years. His walk slowed, he was getting old right before my eyes. Last year when I went back to the States he was getting frail, loosing weight, I can sense his time might come soon. Then the emails from Annie to let us know this might be his last days with us. I didn't know dusk would come so soon, but it did. With Annie and KR by his side he went away to be with The Lord. I will always miss him. I will never be able to eat turkey without thinking of him.

To K.R. and all of your family:
We send our love and prayer to all of you. I never asked your Dad if he knew mine, also an Engineer at Huges for 30 years. These type of men were real men of the highest quality. They loved their families and especially their wives. Please accept our sincere thoughts.

I remember one Thanksgiving Day that I would have had to spend alone, but fortunately was invited to dinner up to the PV house. I was treated with such warmth and delight, by Karl and Lynn. I felt like I was one of the family. I thank God for Karl and Lynn because I have such good friends in KR and Annie and the boys. Good work! Karl is a great man and all of you have been so blessed to have shared his life with him. Someday we will all be together with our Lord. Until then may God bless all of you and heal your hearts.

Dear Karl, Annie, and kids,

We are so sorry for your loss, but so glad that your dad knew the Lord and is now experiencing the fullness of joy. As the Bible tells us, "We do not grieve as those without hope!" But nevertheless, we do grieve, and our prayers are with you during this time.

I worked with Karl in the 70's on cryo coolers at Hughes Aircraft. I was sorry to hear of his passing. He helped me many a time get my engineering changes accepted. I would like to attend his celebration.
