Lidia Fernandez Obituary
Lidia Onderka Fernandez was a very strong woman, who had overcome many obstacles in life. She was an extremely CARING woman, that shared her wisdom through her stories, laughter, and always giving support to her family back in Peru. She led her life with love and courage leaving behind loving memories of a woman who treasured her family. Lidia passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023, at the age of 87. She was born in Iquitos, Peru on November 1, 1936, to Maria Tuesta Mozombite and Arturo Fernandez Cifuentes. She was the second eldest of five children but, was raised by her godmother. She lived a life very much like Cinderella, managing most of the household duties in her godmother's household. Fortunately, at the age of 17 she happily reunited with her mother and siblings, forming a loving bond that lasted through the test of time and distance. Eventually, she moved to the capital city of Lima, and worked as a lab technician for ten years before immigrating to the United States in 1965, when she was 29 years old. After living in Los Angeles for a decade, her destiny changed when she met her prince charming at the Alpine Village on New Year's Eve in 1975. Lidia married Frank Onderka a year later at the Alpine Village, where they first met. She became a caring stepmother to his son Frank Jr. They went on to start multiple businesses and become active members of the Lions Club of Gardena. Frank was her true love and they lived a happy life together for many years. She continued to support her family in Peru and the states by making sure to visit, welcoming everyone into her home, and helping in any way she could. She kept a strong bond with her brothers and sisters, as well as built strong relationships with her nieces and nephews. She was loved dearly by everyone that was lucky enough to know her. Lidia was preceded in death by her elder sister Hilda Fernandez in July 2020, and by her husband Frank Onderka in June of 2023. She is survived by her stepson Frank Onderka, Jr; sisters and brother Miriam Fernandez, Graciela Del Aguila and Arturo Fernandez; and multiple nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed but the love she shared will continue to live on through our memories forever.
