Linda Vidovich Obituary

July 31, 1942 - Aug. 12, 2019 Linda Vidovich, "Miss Vid" passed away August 12th at the age of 77. Born and raised in San Pedro, our Linda was a long-time, beloved teacher with LAUSD. She spent over half her career at Fries Avenue Elementary School in Wilmington and finished her career at Leland Street Elementary School in San Pedro. Linda loved teaching all children but was partial to 4th grade. She served as the PE teacher at Fries for a couple of years and excelled in that position. Graduating from San Pedro High School in 1961 Linda attended San Jose State and Long Beach State Universities before settling in to her teaching career. Linda remained lifelong friends with members of her own kindergarten class, students, fellow teachers, school staff, neighbors and strangers alike. Linda was the fourth of five children of Andrew and Katy Vidovich. She is survived by her older sister Elsie (Frank) Clasby of Alameda, CA, brothers Frank (JoAnn) Vidovich of San Pedro, CA, and Tony Vidovich of Chino Hills, CA, and younger sister Kathy (Paul) Moritz of Avalon, CA. Linda often loved to celebrate Fridays at local happy hours. She was known for her generous spirit, her love for family, friends, and her beloved kitties. She will be terribly missed by her many nieces and nephews as well as all those she treated like family. Linda was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Katy Vidovich, sister-in-law Arlein Vidovich and best friend of over 40 years, Carolyn Miller. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 10:30AM, at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 877 W 7th Street, San Pedro, CA 90731. Interment will follow the Mass at 12:00PM, at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S Western Ave, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. In lieu of flowers, Linda would have loved for donations to be made to: Club 21 Learning and Resource Center for Individuals with Down Syndrome, 539 N. I was 8 years old and in 3rd grade at Fries Ave. Elementary School. Linda was my favorite teacher throughout my education years. Her room number was 26 and til this day it remains my favorite number. Everywhere I went i would always see the number 26 and it reminded me of her. My entire family knew the meaning of 26 and where it was derived. My hire date at my most recent job (recently retired) was 02-06-2006! I decided to retire on 02-06-2024! 6 years ago I found her number and called and I´ll never forget the conversation. She asked me what I remembered about her and I said it was the bell bottom jeans, the big buckle belts and her short 70´s haircut. We reminisced and were suppose to meet for lunch but I got sick for a really long time. Tonight she crossed my mind and I dialed her number and got, "The number you are trying to reach is no longer in service". I knew. I knew something had happened to her. Google had shown her obituary. :-I I am so sad to hear of her passing, she was the best teacher anyone could ever have. May her legacy live on and I´m sure she made an impact on many lives. May she rest in peace. Go #26!!

Linda was so kind and funny. She truly loved the children she taught. She saw them as equals, and did not discriminate, because they were of a different culture, or spoke a different language. Never did I hear a derogatory word, coming from her. She believed the children had the ability to learn, and taught them with that idea in mind. I am sure she was missed by her students. Though we were both retired, running into her in different parts of town was fun. She is truly missed. May her soul Rest In Peace. My condolences to her family.

Dear Cousins, I am sorry I can't be there to celebrate the life of cousin Linda. She was so special: caring, funny, smart. I will always be grateful to her for all she did for my mom especially in her declining years. I will send a donation to South Bay Cats.

Lots of love, hugs and kisses
