Mark Kuha

July 14, 1954 - June 16, 2021 In loving memory of Mark Kuha who passed away peacefully while at home with his wife. Mark Kuha was born on July 14th 1954 in Kuortane Finland. He was the first child of Armi and Heikki Kuha. Mark lived in Finland with his parents, sister, and brother until he was the age of 10. In May 1965 Armi and Heikki decided to migrate to southern California for an opportunity for a better life. When Mark arrived in the US, he did not speak English at all. This was a hard adjustment for him in school, but it didn't take long for him to learn English. Mark attended schools in San Pedro and graduated in 1972. Mark had a lot of friends in high school who he loved spending time with and met Cindy Conner who was his high school sweetheart. Mark and Cindy were married in 1978. Mark and Cindy had a son named Mark in 1979. At that time Mark was driving trucks for work until he had an opportunity to work on the docks as a casual longshoreman. Mark left the truck driving industry to pursue being a longshoreman. After a few years working as a longshoreman Mark joined ship gang 15, which he enjoyed very much. Mark had some hard injuries from working on the docks which caused him to retire earlier than he wanted to. In 1995 Mark met Sonya Torres, they married a few years later in San Pedro. Mark loved Sonya and her family very much and loved spending time with them. Mark retired from ILWU in 2008. Mark Kuha is survived by his wife Sonya, sister Mary (Ari) Hieta-aho, brother Pete (Niki) Kuha, Brother Jimmy (Virpi) Kuha, son Mark (Lacey) Kuha, grandchildren Aidan and Asher Kuha and nephews Erik Hieta-aho and Kristian Kuha.
