Martin Medak Obituary
Surrounded by his immediate family in his home, Martin Medak passed away on January 5, 2017. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Brigitte Medak; his son, Raymond Medak; his daughter, Susi Medak-Ahranjani and his son-in-law, Massih Ahranjani; and his five grandchildren, Raechel, Dari, Mickela, Arman and Nicolle; as well as his nephews, Berislav Suman and Anthony Medak and their families. In 1932, Martin was born in Komin/ Neretva, Croatia to Masa and Raiko Medak. He left Croatia for Paris where he sought political asylum. While in Paris, Martin met and married Brigitte. Together they immigrated to the United States without knowing a single word of English and a baby on the way. Despite all the many challenges immigrants are faced with, Martin gradually succeeded in becoming an integral part of the development on San Pedro and fulfilling the American Dream. Martin will be remembered by family and many friends here in America, as in Croatia and in Austria. He will be tremendously and forever missed and loved by all. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, 12:30 p.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church. As per Martins wishes, he will be laid to rest in the family grave in Austria. The many,many years Peggy and I knew Martin and Brigitte will never be forgotten. WE knew them as friends and GOOD PEOPLE. As a dealer we sold Martin many beautiful Cal. paintings and had wonderful times with them in Barstow, Redslands and at their home. I'm sure Peggy and Martin are talking nonstop in Heaven. In doing a search on Martin Medak, I find out, now years afterwards, that he has passed away. I am an artist and worked as an historical art dealer and met Martin Medak in the 1980s. I was able to visit his home and art collection and meet his family briefly in San Pedro. His extreme knowledge of the arts, and art history, actually inspired or strengthened certain aspects of my work over the decades, (although he knew me as an art dealer, not an artist). Also visiting the Medak home inspired me to want to one day live in San Pedro, which ultimately came to pass. Sorry I missed you this time, Martin, hope to see you in the coming world. Dear Ujko,
This is a moment in life when you wish you could bring someone back, spend the day with them just one more time, give them one more hug, kiss them goodbye or hear their voice again. One more chance to say I LOVE YOU! Every time when I am going to look at the sky I will know that you are here. You will be always remembered and in my heart. Thank you for all moments spent together, which made my life more valuable.
