Matthew Matich Obituary
Matt Matich, 82, a San Pedro native, passed away suddenly at home of complications from surgery on December 22, 2014. Matt was born Feb, 6, 1932 in the old brick San Pedro Hospital to Matt and Zora Matich. He graduated from San Pedro High School, W50 class. He served in the Navy and upon discharge, 1954, worked at Star-Kist Foods and for a short time was a Deputy Sheriff with L.A. County, then became a fireman with the Los Angeles City Fire Dept., retiring in 1982. During this time he continued work at Star-Kist Foods in many different capacities and retired in 1992. After retirement he enjoyed many cruises with family, but his true passion was the deck from his house, overlooking the ocean and Catalina Island, where he spent many relaxing hours. The joy of his life was his only grandchild, Matty, now 12. Matt was a true family man and loved by his many friends and neighbors. He will be missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; sons, Matthew and Michael (Shirley) and grandson, Matty; sister, Dolores Matich; and cousin, Yvonne Bogdanovich. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, from 4-8 pm at McNerney's Mortuary. Services to be held at Green Hills Chapel, December 31, 2014, 10:00 am., with private interment to follow. I was so sorry to learn of your loss. Reading all the nice words about your husband and father took me back to my days at White Point Elementary where I had the pleasure of getting to know your lovely family. I wish I had known Matt. He must have been a very special guy. I hope each passing day will bring a little less pain and a bit more time to enjoy the happy memories made over the many years you had together. Our sincere condolence to the Matich family.Mr Matich was a supper kind person and I enjoyed every conversations and every minute I spent with him talking about cars and working on his car.. That was our link and common ground. I shook his hand the morning he passed and I can still feel it in mine. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten
