Michael Adley Obituary

Michael Thomas Adley

Michael Thomas Adley (Big Mike) went to be with Jesus his savior on March 14, 2017 at 7:50 p.m. Michael was born on December 18, 1945 in Gardena, CA. and attended grammar school, Junior High and High School in his home town. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was aboard the U.S.S James E. Kyes during the Vietnam War for four years and was given an honorable discharge from the service. After being discharged from the service Michael had various jobs around the south bay area. When Michael was 30 years old he acquired his painting contractor license and created Christian Painter & Wallcoverings which he owned and operated for more than 40 years. After his 40 year career as a painting contractor Michael decided to become a longshoreman fulfilling his lifelong dream to work "on the docks". It took 7 years for him to receive his casual card but when he finally received it he was the happiest man alive. He loved going to the Casual Hall and he especially loved spreading the "Good News of Jesus Christ" to many of the young men and women at the hall. Bringing donuts and conversation was one of his favorite pass times. Michael was a generous and loving man who always helped those in need and did acts of kindness anonymously. He was preceded in death by his mother Katherine Adley and brothers Kenneth Winters and John Greenleaf. Michael is survived by his wife of 32 years Loredona, his son Carlos (wife Ava) Adley and grandson JonCarlos Adley. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Mary Reese, sister-in-law Martha Sementilli (husband Mike) and Andrea Greenleaf. His nieces Carla Sementilli Garske (husband Steve), Theresa Garcia and Julie Greenleaf his nephews Nick Sementilli (wife Bianca) and Steven Greenleaf along with great nieces Briana DiAmbrosi, Lori, Brooke and Ava Sementilli, Jordan and Taylor Garcia and great nephews Daniel Greenleaf and Timothy Garcia. A "Celebration of his life" will be held on Tuesday March 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Top of the Market, San Pedro Fish Market, Ports O'Call, 1190 Nagoya Way, San Pedro. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Michaels' name to Outpost Ministries, 1491 O'Farrell St., San Pedro, CA. 90732. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com or dailybreeze.com.

I am so sorry for your loss of "big Mike" he was a steel eye beam covered in velvet, always willing to ride out the extra mile for others. Dear Loredona & family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I briefly got to know Mike while designing and making a shadowbox frame. In that short time and after when he came to let me know your reaction I could see that he was a caring and grateful person. May his memory be eternal.

For several years in the early 1990's Big Mike provided me with work as a painter and generously helped me many times when I need it most. He handed me money several times when he knew I was in need, even though I never asked him for help. I will never forget the great stories he would tell as we ate lunch together. He taught his workers the "Painting Trade" and is responsible for the success of many currently in the trade. I will never forget him calling me "Little Brother" as he shared his faith and love for life with me. He was a powerful and rugged man with a heart of gold. RIP my "Big Brother" I will never forget you.

My condolences to the family. Losing a dear loved one can make us feel very low at times. May the assurance given at Isaiah 57:15 be strengthening to you at this very difficult time.
