Nellie Valencia Obituary
Nellie Valencia a South Bay resident since 1950, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday September 30, 2016, she was 82 years young. Born in 1934 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Nestor and Gertrudes Padilla. Nellie is survived by the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Arthur Ortega Valencia; daughters Mary George (Dave); Becky Estrada (Victor); and sons Art Valencia (Myra) and Andy Valencia (Linda); and her 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. All of her grandchildren were especially close to their grandma because she showered them with love and affection every time she saw them. She had a way to make each one feel special. She loved her doggy Missy and spoiled her rotten. Nellie moved to the South Bay in 1950 with her 10 brothers and sisters and settled in Torrance before moving to Gardena in 1965. She worked for Acme-Divac Electronics in Hawthorne for 20 years where she started on the assembly line and rose to the position of manager. Throughout her life she touched many lives with kindness and her sense of humor. Her congregation knew her as the Candy Lady.

Thank you all for your warm and comforting words. My Mother was a strong woman who always put her children first. She always made it a point to have all the family sit together for dinner while growing up....she adored us as we adored her. We were so lucky to have her in our lives for 82 beautiful years. She will always be in our hearts. Madrecita Querida.
